9 months, 9 gigs, one precious new arrival

I’m going to give birth to a new album next year. And you could help me push it out.

I’ve come up with the Gestation Project as a way of giving my fans a unique level of insight - and input - into the creation of my new solo album.

I think it’s going to be fun too.

Here’s how you can help bring my new record into the world…

Come to the shows:
On the last Wednesday of each month Upstairs@Whelans, Dublin from September 30th, I’ll be trying out different versions and arrangements of my new songs accompanied by different genius collaborators. For full details enter GESTATION and go to GESTATION LIVE.

Request three oldies:
I love the new stuff, and I think you will too.  But we all yearn for the familiar.  So I ’ll also be playing a special requests slot each show, entirely composed of your suggestions from my back catalogue (solo, TFLS or Alien Envoy). Enter GESTATION and post your personal Top 3 under GESTATION REQUESTS.

Give me feedback:
I’ve posted rough one-take demos of a bunch of new songs on GESTATION, plus lyrics for each one.  Each month, I’ll be posting new versions of some of these songs recorded at the live shows.  I’d welcome your comments on any or all of these songs / versions.  Enter GESTATION, have a listen / read and comment on any or all of the pieces I’ve uploaded.

Send me artwork
I’m looking to create the booklet for the new album using a series of images, one for each of the final songs selected.  If any of the songs moves you to paint, etch, photograph or crochet an image, as literal or lateral as you like, I’d love to see it, and will consider using it (credited to you, naturally) in the final album artwork.  Enter GESTATION and go to GESTATION ARTWORK for details on how to upload an image for consideration.

Tell your friends
I won’t be running TV ads or phone-in competitions on national broadcasters.  In fact, apart from whatever number of street posters I can afford (a few) and whatever coverage the media grants me (we’ll see), the only means I have of spreading the word about GESTATION is you.   So please feel free to let your friends know.

Become a sponsor
For each of my last two albums, I’ve invited fans to sponsor the initial pressing by buying in advance – and been overwhelmed by the response.  I will certainly be seeking to do this with my new album as we move closer to release date.  I’ll be posting more details on how you can get involved in due course.
