“...Defiantly financed by private sponsorship, Dubliner Nick Kelly's album may offer a handy return on investment. His voice, liquid as Christy Moore's or keen as Bono's, frets and obsesses about love gone bust in a way that actually makes one chap's inner uproar accessible to all. Via hard-driven arrangements of guitars, strings and a drop of flute, fervid songs like Tiburon Prayer, Republic, and Faint Heart diversely declare loss, independence or hapless love. Although egocentricity sometimes threatens (viz "I need to be the greatest single only one of all" - Starving Seed), Kelly largely sustains a fetching clarity of image, the exemplar being Tiburon Prayer's "And the dust gathered round the gaps your stuff left, eager to get settled in"....(4/5)”
